2 arrested for murder of teenager whose abduction was caught on video (watch)
Two men linked to the murder of a 13-year old Detroit boy, Deontae Mitchell have been arrested. Mitchell’s body was found lifeless in a field on Detroit’s eastside yesterday, June 2nd, two days after the incident occurred at a grocery store.
Reports revealed that Mitchell and his cousin rode their bikes to the grocery store on the city’s eastside to buy chips and drinks but when the incident was ongoing, Mitchell shouted for help but his cousin couldn’t come to his rescue.
Apparently, his cousin stated to the police that the teen had picked up money dropped by 45-year-old Gregory Walker, who was urinating against an exterior wall of the grocery store.
Surveillance video footage from the grocery store showed Walker holding a nickel-plated revolver while he grabbed Mitchell by the arm and pushed him into the rear passenger side of a black Chevy Impala.
The car was later found abandoned near I-94 on the eastside.
After the video was aired repeatedly on the news, Walker was arrested without incident early Thursday in Toledo, Ohio. A female acquaintance who was with him was also taken into custody.
Hours later, police arrested Ernest Coleman as a suspect following the boy’s demise.
Since the incident, the 3rd suspect, Roy Portis, 51, has been on the run. He is described as a black male, 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds.
The Police Chief, James Craig aggravated by the issue said “This should be a message to all who perpetrate crimes against children: we’re going to continue in a very relentless way to find you and bring you into custody,” “We’re talking about a defenseless child with an adult male with a gun. Once again, another coward preying on children that needs to stop.”
