86-yr-old woman narrates her encounter with notorious rapist
An octogenarian, Madam Belawu Jimoh, yesterday, described her ordeal with the man alleged to be a serial rapist and murderer in Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
The 86 years old woman, who resides in Oke Ota, Ibeshe area of Ikorodu, claimed she was assaulted two weeks ago. She, however, expressed happiness that her attacker, simply identified as Badoo, was caught and detained last Sunday after searching for him for three days.
The suspect, who allegedly raped and murdered a 27-year-old school teacher, Grace Jubreel, in her home in the presence of her 14-month-old baby in the Ibeshe community in Ikorodu, was nabbed by residents who would have lynched him if not for the intervention of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, that rescued him.
She was said to have been raped in Oke-Ota on Sunday, June 5, after a trip from her husband’s base in Osun State.
Badoo, according to reports, was spotted by some members of the community, who attacked him, and stormed the palace of the traditional ruler asserting that the suspect be handed over to them by RRS.
The monarch declined, maintaining that the rapist be handed over to the police so that the law could handle the matter.
According to a resident in the area, the suspect usually inflicted knife injuries on his victims, adding that he uses a handkerchief to clean up his victims after raping them, an indication that he could be using them for rituals.
‘I woke up in hospital’ Speaking with Vanguard yesterday, Madam Belawu said she was asleep when an unidentified man entered her room through her backyard at about 1a.m.
The octogenarian said the rapist threatened to kill her if she does not co-operate. She said: “I could have shouted, but he threatened to kill me and so I kept quiet.” Her nose was chopped off by the rapist, who then took her outside to continue with his mission.
She said: “I was conscious initially, but became unconscious after losing much blood. I did not know what transpired thereafter, but I woke up in the hospital where my son later told me I lost my nose to an attack.
“Madam Belawu, who is also nursing bruises on her leg, said the attack had affected her health, adding, “what will be, will be. My health is no longer as it used to be. But I have found solace in God.”
